Singing from the heart:

    By Janice Bennett

It is great to be a member of our choir.  We have a fine choral tradition at All Saints' with a stimulating range of music suited to the devotions of Holy Week, the great festivals such as Christmas, and the maintenance of regular worship.

Choir practices are very sociable with laughter and refreshments as well as good music.    I find it very refreshing, at the end of a busy day, to let someone else do the organising and just sing my heart out.  There is something very therapeutic about putting all one’s concentration, body and mind, into learning a new anthem or letting rip with a well-loved tune.

There are two qualifications needed for being in the choir: one, to be able to read the words, and two, to be willing to take part.  New members sometimes like to “goldfish” a bit whilst they look the part and try to work out what to sing when, and how to do it.  That’s no problem.

What you do not need is a perfect voice or the ability to read music. Your voice may be reedy, wobbly, asthmatic, or just plain rusty  and you will still be very, very welcome. The singing voice improves with use and no one is asked to do more than he or she can.

Sitting in the chancel for services is a real treat.  We get a ringside seat for grand occasions and a good view of the bride at weddings! The choir sings from the heart of the service and the choir members sing from their hearts in the pleasures of friendship and worship.

Come, young and old, and sing from the heart with us. New members are welcome now and at any time.
